Jane and Michael's Construction Report for the Week of September 5, 2006

Week11 September 5, 2006

Hi, don't fool yourself....bears can climb trees. That's a happy bear in Irvin's apple tree.

Last week was productive, the bathroom is close to being finished, the siding got cut and Michael started decorating it, I got the mudroom floor painted, and the lights went up.Dave got most of the tower floor in and the stairs are varithaned. Greg had to cancel today-a friend was in a car accident, but he should be here tomorrow to start the cat walk. So if all goes well, we'll be somewhat ready for the party. Certainly it will be an incentive to clean up the drive which is a mess right now. I should only be a day or two away from starting to get my studio back together.....or am I optimistic? My storage shelves are almost finished...what could go wrong?????

We had Will and Dorothy over last night for our first "dinner" party in the tower. Dorothy brought dinner and we provided salad and atmosphere. Slowly we will figure out what kind of furniture we need,,,,,,and then all be have to do is find what we need....not fun.

The mosquitoes are finally bearable. The weather perfect. Fall is in the air, some trees are turning yellow already. Weeds are abundant and certainly next year we will suffer for it. Love,Jane

Week11_day2

Tuesday September 5, 2006

Wow, 2 sides of the addition are nearly finished! Though Michael plans to touch up some things, it looks great. Today was Dave's last day. He's off to Nova Scotia to help his brother for a few weeks. Sad to see him go, but we plan to have all the guys and partners here for a dinner party in Oct.

Rob, the guy in the car accident, was Dwayne"s, the drywaller, helper. Unfortunately, he broke his neck and probably will be paralyzed for life. Zapper is in Calgary this week with him. They all hang out together, so its quite a big deal.

Greg will be alone for the rest of the week. He's the faster worker of the 3 so I think things should still go quickly.

Still nice weather. Michael got called by fire protection to go back to the tower, but he had to refuse.

Love, Jane

Week11day4the end is in sight

Thursday September 7, 2006

HI, yesterday, Greg brought a new carpenter, Steve, with him, so things are rolling along. The cat walk and platforms are nearly finished, we just had our salads up on the south platform. Its small, only 4'square, just big enough for the 2 of us. Another gorgeous day, so we had a nice sunset, complete with orange red sun due to the smoke, but doesn't show in the photo. Greg finished the tower floor, got most of the remaining trim up, finished the bathroom, hung the doors in the mudroom, and Steve made the platforms and catwalk in the drive.

I finished parging the chimney, Michael finished the siding, though he's planning on toning the whole thing and lightening it a bit. So there is the railing for the deck that still isn't started, a bit more on the cat walk, the door in the tower (Greg is making it this weekend) and a few other odds and ends.

We think work will be finished for Greg Mon or Tue. Just in time to get the drive cleaned for the party! Rane, Will and Dorothy's son, will make the hobbit door over the winter. So we do have to make a temporary door to keep the cold out.

Will the house finally get cleaned this weekend, or better to wait till just before the party?

Jane
