The Clean Up Begins

Week8

The clean up begins

Monday July 31, 2006

Nice to have the crew back. Greg and Dave had an exciting week up at a lodge repairing the roof. The night they opened the roof there was a big lightening storm....the day had been so clear they decided not to cover up the hole. Big mistake....as Greg said, they were up on the roof in their jammies, freezing cold, rain, wind, and lightening, on a metal roof at a 45' pitch....Greg telling Dave, "Don't hold on the antenna!" which he was doing so he wouldn't fall off the roof. The lodge did not have a lightening rod. They both got big gashes due to the sharp edges of the roof. One tarp they put up leaked, so they had to redo it in poly. I think today's job on our roof was a piece of cake.

Dwayne finished the drywall sanding. It looks good. He cleaned up a bit, but the stuff is hard to get rid of. I cleaned for at least 2 hours and still have more to go,or will I just get going on the painting and clean a little here and there. Dave depressed me by saying after the work was completed on his house, it took 3 people 14 hours to clean it.

Zapper took most of the remaining shingles and some of the drywall to the dump. That's a relief. I still haven't gone. He had to make 3 trips today, only because the closest dumpsters were full and at the second, a woman threatened to turn him in (not supposed to dump construction material in them- we're supposed to take it to Golden....really.....). Zapper was in a good mood, he got engaged a few days ago.

The windows will arrive Wed. Jim will deliver them himself, guess he couldn't find a driver. I offered to feed him lunch. So Wed will be another good day, esp if they get a few of them in.

Michael is due out Thurs unless they pull him early due to the cooler weather. Unlikely though. Its still dry. He had snow still on the northside of the fire tower when I talked with him at noon.

I'm anxious to paint, but there is some prep work, actually quite a bit , most of which gets done after its primed.

Hey, Phil, happy birthday!

Love, Jane

We've got a tower with a view

Hi, probably our last exciting day, too bad Mike missed it. Jim arrived with the windows at 8;30 having gotten up at 4am to deliver them. The guys waited till after lunch to tackle the job of getting them in. The two 4x10' windows were very heavy, and getting them up on the roof quite a feat. But no injuries or broken windows. Every one of them fit perfectly. Its fabulous! I ate dinner up there.

I've been priming the walls, there is a huge area to paint. Mike is coming home tomorrow. He'll be thrilled to see the windows in. The roof is nearly shingled (missing a 4 ft section of edging)so we're hoping it turns up somewhere. I should get the garlic out of the garden tomorrow its been ready almost a week now.

Love, Jane
